Spartans #2 seed in IIAC Tourney

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team lost on the road Wednesday night to the Buena Vista University Beavers 75-77. UD managed to claim the #2 seed for the Iowa Conference Tournament which begins next week. 

UD missed an attempt to win the game in the final seconds, grabbed the rebound and missed a lay-up, tied up the ball for a jump ball after the second miss. The possession arrow favored the host Beavers with .3 seconds left. An inbound pass ended the Spartans hope for a victory and a chance for the IIAC conference title  in 2013-14.

The Spartans were led in scoring by Andre Norris who finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Fazier connected for 18 points and earned four assists as teammate Brandon Ferguson came off the bench to score 14 points.

The Spartans made 30-68 shot attempts from the field (44.1%), 10-30 three point attempts (33.3%), and made 5-7 free throw attempts (71.4%). The difference in the game was at the free throw line where the Beavers made 11-15 attempts (73.3%).

The Spartans earned a first round bye despite the loss and will host an Iowa Conference Tournament game on Feb. 27 at a time to be announced. The IIAC Tournament begins on Feb. 25 at #3 and #4 seeds. March 1 will be the IIAC Tournament Championship with the winner automatically advancing into the 2014 Division III National Championships.
