Kotas Named IIAC Female Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that University of Dubuque basketball player Jenna Kotas (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and Central basketball player Colby Taylor have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 23, 2014. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in five sports.

In addition to being named Female Athlete of the Week, Kotas was selected Women's Basketball Performer of the Week. The junior forward averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game in two UD victories last week.  The Spartans closed the regular season with a four game winning streak to move into a second place tie in the final IIAC regular season standings. Kotas has led Dubuque in scoring 13 straight games, reaching double figures in 12 of those games. She has currently made 18 straight free throws (the school record is 24 by Greta Pemsl in 2001). UD currently leads the IIAC in home attendance at 7,615 (692/game). 

Heading into the IIAC Tournament, Kotas is fifth in the conference at 15.7 points per game, fourth in three-point field goals made (53),  fourth in free throw percentage (83.2%), and ninth in three-point field goal percentage (32.1%). She was also named IIAC Female Athlete of the Week and Women's Basketball Performer of the Week on December 22, 2013.
