Spartans Place 11 on All-IIAC Team

FINAL RESULTS

DECORAH, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Track & Field team finished in fourth place with 98.5 team points at the 2014 Iowa Conference Indoor Championships. The Spartans had a school record 11 individuals earn All-IIAC while also winning two events. UD dominated the pole vault on Friday afternoon with Rick Valcin (Catries, St. Lucia/Gros Islet) winning and Nicholas Kazmierczak (Lodi, Wis./Lodi) finishing second. The Dubuque 4x800m Relay team set a new school record. 

In addition to Valcin's victory, Kyle Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) won the 200m Dash with a winning time of 22.69 seconds. Valcin also earned All-IIAC in the 200m Dash with a time of 22.91 seconds in third place. The Spartans continued its 11-year streak of all-conference performers in the 55/60m Dash with K.Williams third place finish at 6.64 seconds. Valcin placed fifth while Jimmie Williams (Chicago, Ill./Calumet) took eighth in the event. Dubuque had won four straight 55/60's with Davivorn Down winning in 2010 & 2012 and Phillip Jones winning in 2011 & 2013.

On Friday night, Valcin and K.Williams teamed with Ryan Mattingly (Janesville, Iowa/Janesville) and Andy Sierra (Fruitland, Iowa/Louisa-Muscatine) for a third place finish in the 4x200m Relay. The UD 4x800m Relay team of Remington Meggers (DeWitt, Iowa/Central DeWitt), DeVante Miller (Markham, Ill./Bremen), Jordan Murray (DeWitt, Iowa/Central DeWitt), and Justin Hughes (Forreston, Wis./Forreston) set a new school record by 3.95 seconds at 8:22.36. 

The Spartans finished 2-4 in the triple jump with Antwone Lindsey (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) placing second with a final jump of 13.52m (44'-4.25"). Kebba Bojang (Madison, Wis./Madison East) finished fourth with his first jump being his best at 13.17m (43'-2.5"), he fouled on his next four attempts.

Evan Zurbuchen (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West) was runner-up in the 55m Hurdles at 7.95 seconds. Mario-John Otchere (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett) moved into second all-time on the UD performance list in the weight throw with a toss of 15.51m (50'-10.75").

DAY 1 RECAP

Rick Valcin (Catries, St. Lucia/Gros Islet) continued his dominance of the pole vault with his seventh win of the the year. Valcin earned the pole vault victory by clearing 4.61m (15' 1.5") to earn 10 team points. Freshman Nicholas Kazmierczak (Lodi, Wis./Lodi) finished second in the event clearning 4.46m (14' 7.5"), the second best height in school history behind of Valcin. 

The Spartans dominated the 55m Dash taking three of eight spots in the finals. Valcin qualified first with a time of 6.53 seconds, tying him for 10th all-time at UD. Kyle Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) finished fourth in the prelims at 6.60 seconds while Jimmie Williams (Chicago, Ill./Calumet) took sixth. 

The UD 4x200m Relay team of Valcin, K.Williams, Ryan Mattingly (Janesville, Iowa/Janesville), and Andy Sierra (Fruitland, Iowa/Louisa-Muscatine) took third with a time of 1:31.87. The Spartans Distance Medley team of Remington Meggers (DeWitt, Iowa/Central DeWitt), DeVante Miller (Markham, Ill./Bremen), Justin Hughes (Forreston, Wis./Forreston), and Payton Nevills (Savanna, Ill./West Carroll) ran the second fastest time in UD history at 10:55.51. 

Evan Zurbuchan (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West) and Tyler Dobratz (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) qualified for the finals of the 55m Hurdles.
