IIAC Opener for Spartans Baseball Delayed

DUBUQUE, IOWAThe University of Dubuque Baseball game against Central College scheduled for Friday, March 28th has been postponed to Sunday, March 30th due to unplayable field conditions following rain on Thursday. The Spartans and Dutch will now open the 2014 Iowa Conference season on Saturday, March 29th at 1:00 pm. 

UD and Central will play one-seven inning game and one-nine inning game on Saturday and Sunday to complete the four game series. Sundays doubleheader will begin at Noon. The Spartans enter the weekend with a 4-7 record while Central is 8-3 on the year. 

Freshman Daniel Casanova (Lake Tapps, Wash./Auburn Riverside) and senior Vince Parisi (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) have provided a spark offensively for the Spartans. Casanova leads UD in nearly every offensive category including batting average (.412), slugging percentage (.618), on base percentage (.512), runs (8), hits (14), triples (3), total bases (21), walks (5), stolen bases (10). Parisi leads Dubuque in runs batted in (6), doubles (2), and hit by pitches (4). Casanova and Parisi are the only two Spartans to start all 11 games this year. 

2013 Honorable Mention All-Iowa Conference pitcher Josh Eastman (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) is the workhorse atop the Spartans rotation having thrown 15.2 innings. Justin Naval (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) has provided a steady arm out of the bullpen winning two games in relief. In four games, Naval has nine-strikeouts and four hits allowed in 7.1 innings of work. 

Offensively Central is led by reigning IIAC Position Player of the Week Robbie Rushing. Rushing is hitting .510 (25-49) with nine doubles, three home runs, and 20 RBI. On the mound for the Dutch, Dakotah Wolken is 3-0 with a 5.74 ERA.
