Spartans Lacrosse Falls to Mt. St. Joe

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Lacrosse team played its home opener on Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field. The Spartans fell behind 11-0 before scoring the last four goals of the first half with Bridget Schirmers (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) and Judy Borah (Mammoth Lakes, Calif./Pacific Palisades Charter) each scoring two goals. Mount Saint Joseph (Ohio) earned the 19-7 victory over UD in the second Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) game for the Spartans. Dubuque is 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the MWLC. 

Schirmers led the Spartans offensively with three goals and one assist. All three of Schirmers goals came at even strength. 

Down 11-0 after 16 minutes, UD scored the final four goals of the first half with the goal order being Borah-Schirmers-Borah-Schirmers. MSJ was once again able to strike quickly to began the half with seven unanswered goals. 

The final two goals of the game came from Kelly Wetherald (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) and Anna Yackshaw (Clinton, Iowa/Prince of Peace). Wetherald's goal came with UD having a one man advantage. 

Danielle Williams (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) took the loss in goal giving up 11 goals. Natalie Cukale (Aurora, Colo./Gateway) recorded eight saves in 43:40 minutes in goal in relief of Williams. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans will travel to Augustana College on April 1st. Game time for the MWLC match is 7:30 pm.
