UD Department of Fine and Performing Arts presents Spring into the Arts Performance Series

The University of Dubuque Department of Fine and Performing Arts will present a spring performance series entitled Spring into the Arts. The series will include performances from University ensembles such as the UD Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Gospel Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Ensemble Theatre Company, UD Dance Company, and more. Over one hundred UD students are involved in the department and its ensembles and performances, performing everything from instrumental jazz, classical choral pieces, new musical theatre, and comic operas. Concert Choir Spring Concert
Sunday, April 6, 3:00 p.m.
John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center

The University of Dubuque Concert Choir, under the direction of Charles Barland, associate professor of music, will present a concert titled Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit, featuring works by Gover, Bach, Hampton, Billy Joel, Palestrina, and more.  The choir is comprised of fifty students of all majors, and performs 2-3 times per semester. The group tours annually and has performed in thirty-eight states and Puerto Rico; later this spring they will be touring the northeastern United States and Canada. This event is free, however, a ticket is required for admission.

 

Wind Ensemble Spring Concert
Wednesday, April 9, 7:30 p.m.
John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center

The University of Dubuque Wind Ensemble, directed by Nicholas Bratcher, assistant professor of music, with guests Clarke University Wind Ensemble, directed by David Resnick, instructor of music, will perform a concert of “threes”.  The combined band from the two universities will perform works by William, Holsing, Smith, and more. The UD Wind Ensemble, comprised of 30-plus students and faculty members, performs 2-3 times per semester. This event is free, however, a ticket is required for admission.

 

Gospel Choir Spring Concert
Wednesday, April 16, 7:00 p.m.
Blades Chapel

The UD Gospel Choir will present their annual spring concert in Blades Chapel on April 16 at 7:00 pm. The choir is directed by former student Bridgett Boone, and features a dozen student singers performing classic gospel repertoire. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Chamber Singers Spring Concert
Saturday, April 26, 7:00 p.m.
Blades Chapel

The UD Chamber Singers is an auditioned chamber sub-set of the UD Concert Choir, under the direction of Kristen Eby, adjunct music faculty.  The group of ten singers will present their spring concert, performing works of various genres and composers, including an African-American spiritual, a traditional Haitian piece, a medieval madrigal, and more. This event is free and open to the public.

 

UD Spring Dance Concert
Saturday, April 26, 7:30 p.m.
Babka Theatre, Heritage Center

Students from the UD Dance Company will present their annual spring dance concert, performing a variety of styles including hip-hop, lyric, and ballet. The concert will feature soloists and small groups, as well as larger groups – the UD Spartanettes and UD Dance Crew. This event is free and open to the public.
