Game two starting pitcher Josh Eastman (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) flirted with perfection going five innings before allowing a baserunner in the sixth. UD ended the day with a 8-11 overall record and are tied for third place in the Iowa Conference at 4-4.

The Spartans offense exploded for a season high ten runs and 13 hits in game two with Daniel Casanova (Lake Tapps, Wash./Auburn Riverside) leading the way with four hits including a double, triple, two runs scored, and a RBI. The Spartans combined for six doubles in the game with Eddie Pablo (Yelm, Wash./Yelm) hitting two. Dubuque scored in each of the last five innings to end the game because of the mercy rule.

Eastman was perfect through five innings facing the minimum 15 hitters before a leadoff double in the sixth. He finished with two hits allowed and no walks in the complete game shutout. The complete game was the first of the year for Eastman after five last season. He was also efficiant with his pitch count, throwing just 65 pitches.

After stranding runners in scoring position in the first and second inning, UD broke through in the third for one run. Casanova doubled to right field to leadoff the inning and advanced to third on a fly ball by Pablo. McWhite stepped into the batters box and broke the 0-0 tie with a sac fly to center field that scored Casanova.

UD manufactured a run in the fourth after a leadoff walk by Noah Burdt (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) and a sac bunt moved him into scoring position. A single by Austin Monfross (Big Timber, Mont./Sweet Grass) put runners on first and third for Vince Parisi (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) who put down a squeeze bunt to score Burdt. The Spartans scored two runs in the fifth on RBI doubles by Burdt and Steve Ryan (Loveland, Colo./Mountain View) to take a 4-0 lead.

The Spartans put the game out of reach with four runs, four hits, and two Coe errors in the sixth. Monfoss doubled to left center to begin the rally and scored unearned on a throwing error by Coe. Karrick restarted the rally after being hit by pitch and scoring from first on Pablo's first double of the game. McWhite then singled to right field to score Pablo for his team high 17th RBI of the season. After a Coe pitching change and wild pitch, McWhite scored on a Ryan single to make the score 8-0.

Karrick was once again the spark in the Spartans rally as UD scored two runs on three hits in the seventh to reach the ten run mercy rule. Karrick reached on an infield single and scored from first on a triple by Casanova. Pablo followed with this second double of the game to score Casanova for his 18th run on the year.

UP NEXT: The Spartans and Kohawks will continue their four game series on Sunday, March 6th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm in Cedar Rapids.
