Back-to-Back Victories for UD Lacrosse

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI - The University of Dubuque Women's Lacrosse team has won back-to-back games for the first time in the programs history with their 13-8 victory over the University of Dallas. The Spartans scored seven straight goals in the second half to pull away from Dallas after being tied 6-6 at halftime. Judy Borah (Mammoth Lakes, Calif./Pacific Palisades Charter) scored three goals and assisted on three others for six points to lead UD. The Spartans improved to 2-7 on the year. 

The Spartans and Crusaders played an even first half with UD scoring first on a goal by Bridget Schirmers (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids). Dallas responded with three straight goals before UD scored three consecutive goals of their own with Kelly Wetherald (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township), Ashley Geraghty (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), and Borah scoring in a five minute stretch.

UD and Dallas exchanged goals over the next 17 minutes before Schrimers and Borah connected with 0:27 seconds remaining in first half to tie the game at 6-6. The goal for Schirmers was scored with UD down a player due to a yellow card. 

After a Dallas goal to start the second half, UD responded with seven straight goals from 25:21 to 7:52 to take a 13-7 lead. Schirmers scored the first and fourth goal for the only multi-goal scorer in the stretch. Wetherald, Borah, Nichole Pacheco (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail), Robyn Wittkopf (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead), and Alora Esparza (Silvis, Ill./United Township) were the others to score. Dallas scored with 0:41 seconds left in the game for the games final points. 

Schirmers finished with four goals raising her season total to 29, breaking Borah's record from last season. Wittkopt won 12 draw controlls, picked up a team high 10 groundballs, and caused four turnovers. Natalie Cukale (Aurora, Colo./Gateway) earned the win in goal with four saves.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will host Benedictine at Oyen Field on Monday, April 14th. The Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.
