INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team jumped out to early leads in both games on the road at Simpson College only to have them slip away late. The Spartans lost the opener 3-4 after giving up the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. UD lost game two by a score of  4-6 despite out hitting the hosts in the nightcap.

The Spartans led 3-1 through three inning before the host Storm tied up the game on a two out rally as they scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. The two squads defense held one another scoreless for the next three innings. Simpson stopped the Spartans with game knotted at 3-3 at top of the final inning. The Storm grabbed the first out on a lined out to third base from Kelli Gerace. Amber Meyer grounded out to shortstop for the second out. Hannah Koerperich struck out swinging for the final out. The Storm opened with a double in the bottom of the seventh. A sac bunt moved the runner to third base and a single to left center scored the winning run for the Storm.

In game two UD added two runs in the first inning to quickly take a 2-0 lead after a single by Tori Woltz scored two Spartan runners. UD scored two runs on one hit and a Simpson error and stranded two runners on base. UD stretched it to a 3-0 lead as Ainsley Billesbach homered to left field. The Storm battled back in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 3-3 after scoring three runs on three hits.

UD would re-take the lead in the sixth inning after a single by Meyer score Meggie Schmidt. The Spartans ended the inning with onr run on three hits and left two runners on base. Once again the Storm dug deep and fought back to score three runs as the Spartans committed a pair of costly errors allowing all three runs to be unearned. It was looking optimistic for the Spartans when Caitlyn Aulwes singled to second base to leadoff the seventh inning. A deep ball to centerfield by Gianna Kuras was caught for the first out. A pop-up to second base and a lined out to leftfield ended the Spartans chances. The Spartans out hit the host Storm 9-8, but fell short in the scoring column 4-6.
