MILAN, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's golf team finished third overall (604), just a single stroke out of second place after tying for fourth after the opening day of the 2014 Augustana Golf Invitational played today at Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Illinois. The #18-ranked Spartans tied with winner Indian Hills Community College for shooting the lowest round on the final day, a score of 297.

The Spartans were without their first-day leading scorer Mitch Sobotta after he injured a wrist during the final round. Sobotta was tied for sixth overall and had to withdraw. The rest of the Spartans stepped up as Josh Schuberg, Eric Wolfe, and Martin Odegard all finished with rounds of 73 and Cameron Shere sliced four strokes off his opening day score to finish with a 78. Schuberg finished with a 149 to tie for 5th overall. Wolfe finished with a two-day total of 150 and placed 7th. Odegard shot a 152 and tied for 8th and Shere scored a 160 to finish tied for 38th on the Par 72 course (6,830 yards).

The Spartans second team were in 10th place after finishing with a score of 322 on the first day, cut seven strokes and moved into ninth place overall with a score of 637. Anders Haukoos (157) tied for 28th overall. Teammates Christian Armas (158) tied fro 31st overall, Troy Krueger (161) ties for 42nd, Alex Beck (163) tied for 46th, and Lane Hawkins (164) finished 52nd.

The Spartans will be off next week as they break for Easter holiday before they prepare for the Iowa Conference Championships on April 25-26 at Finkbine Golf Course (Rounds 1 & 2) in Iowa City, Iowa and at Dubuque Golf and Country Club (Rounds 3 & 4) in Dubuque, Iowa. The University of Dubuque is the Championship host.
