Valcin Wins Second Straight IIAC Track Performer of the Week Honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWAThe Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Luther softball player Miranda McCay and Buena Vista baseball player Jon Ringblom have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 13, 2014. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in six spring sports.

University of Dubuque vaulter Rick Valcin (Catries, St. Lucia/Gros Islet) earned his second straight Men's Outdoor Track & Field (Field) Performer of the Week award. Valcin won the pole vault at the UW-Platteville Invitational by clearing 4.93m (16'-2.0") on his first attempt. He is undefeated during the outdoor season having won last week at the Wartburg Select where set posted a Division-III best height of 5.0m (16'-4.75"). Valcin also finished 14th in a loaded 200m Dash field that included the NCAA Indoor 200m Dash Champion and three other All-Americans. 

The Spartans junior was runner-up at the 2014 NCAA Divsion-III Indoor Championships earning himself All-American honors.  Valcin was previously named IIAC Indoor Track Performer of the Week on January 27, 2014 and IIAC Outdoor Track Performer of the Week on April 7, 2014. He has broke the school record in both the Indoor and Outdoor pole vault this season.
