DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team set a new record on Tuesday afternoon by capturing the 19th win of the season, a new school mark for the Spartans. UD swept past the Loras Duhawks by capturing the opening game 2-1 and ended the second game early after leading 9-0 in the fifth inning after UD's Hannah Koerperich threw her second no-hitter of the season. UD improved to 19-11 overall and 6-4 in the IIAC.

In game one, the host Duhawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a solo homerun. UD rallied and tied the game at the top of the fourth when Kelli Gerace and Amber Meyer both got on base by walks. With two outs Tori Woltz singled to left-center field and scored Megan Davis who pitch ran for Gerace.The Spartans scored one run on one hit and left two runners stranded on base.

UD would take their first lead of the afternoon in the top of the sixth inning. Meggie Schmidt singled up the middle to lead the top of the order off. Gerace struck out swinging for the first out. Meyer singled to center field and advanced to second on the throw as Schmidt advanced to third. Koerperich grounded out to ss, but collected the RBI as Meyer advanced to third and Schmidt scored. Woltz grounded out to p to end the inning with one run in two hits and stranding a base runner..

Amanda Williams went the distance on the mound and faced 27 batters. she allowed one run off four hits and struck out four Duhawks for the victory. Woltz led the defensive effort with 15 putouts.

In the second game, it was all Spartans. UD captured the sweep after ending the day early for the Duhawks after scoring nine runs in nine hits and stopped the game after the fifth inning. Schmidt led the Spartans at leadoff, connected on 3-4 at bats including a triple, scored two runs and earned a pair of RBI's. Gerace and Meyer would both homer for UD as the Spartans increased their lead to 9-0 after three innings.

Koerperich held the offense at bay and finished with her second no-hitter of the season. She faced 16 batters, struck out four and walked just two Duhawks. Jennifer Pohlman stole two bases and scored two runs. UD played errorless all day while the Duhawks committed three errors on the afternoon.

The Spartans and the Duhawks combined for the annual National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) StrikeOut cancer game and were joined by Julie Westercamp from Loras and Debra Runkel for UD, who tossed honorary first pitches as cancer survivors in the special game. Funds raised will benefit local cancer charities.

UD's schedule has changed for Good Friday. The Spartans were scheduled to play the Cornell College Rams on April 18, but they are forced to make-up a conference game instead. UD's next contest will be the Wartburg College Knights in Waverly on Tuesday, April 22 at 3:00 p.m.
