UD Relays Excel at Dr. Tucker Open

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Track & Field teams have been busy over the last two days competing in the Drake Relays on Friday and the Dr. Tucker Open on Saturday. UD women's relay teams brought home two first place finishes including a school record in the 4x400m. Evan Zurbuchen (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West) won the Men's 110m Hurdles. No team scores were available.

Fresh off an outstanding performance at the Drake Relays, the UD Women's 4x100m Relay team of Jasmine Bethea (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg), Tieisha Starks (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan), Nickolette McKenzie (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd), and Rachael Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski) won the 4x1 with a time of 49.15, the third best time in school history. McKenzie and Busjahn teamed with Fabiola Ortiz (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) and Brittany Burns (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Memorial) to win the 4x400m Relay with a school record time of 3:56.99. 

Brenda Breimon (Oconomowoc, Wis./Slinger) tied her own school record from earlier this season with a height of 3.25m (10'-8.0"). The top individual performance on the track came from Ortiz with a second place finish in the 800m Run at 2:21.19.  Burns sprinted her way to a third place finish in the 100m Dash at 12.91 seconds. Taylor Cary (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) took third in the 110m Hurdles at 15.60 seconds, the fourth best time in school history. 

For the UD men, Zurbuchen had an outstanding day in the hurdles events with a first place finish in the 110m and a runner-up performance in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles at 56.15 seconds. Zurbuchen's time of 15.06 seconds in the 110m Hurdles ranks second in the Iowa Conference. Payton Nevills (Savanna, Ill./West Carroll) took second in the 3,000m Steeplechase at 10:02.02. 

Jeremy Lawson (Lake Isabella, Calif./Kern Valley) had a pair of third place performances in field events. He was third in the high jump at 1.91m (6'-3.25") and Javelin at 53.22m (174'-7.0").

UP NEXT: The Spartans will compete in the Monmouth College Fighting Scots Invitational on May 3rd. Field Events begin at 10:30 with the Track Events starting at Noon.
