UD to Host Second Annual Celebration of Student Scholarship and Creativity

Apr 29, 2014 | Kristi Lynch

Tuesday, April 29 through Thursday, May 1, the University of Dubuque will host the second annual Apex: Celebration of Student Scholarship and Creativity. Events will be held in Heritage Center at various times over the three-day period (see schedule).  All events are free and open to the public.

This three-day event celebrates student research, service learning, and creativity both within and beyond the classroom. On Tuesday, research and creative projects done as part of coursework in the 2013-14 academic year will be displayed in the afternoon. In the evening, the Bisignano Art Gallery will launch “The Edge,” the annual Computer Graphic and Interactive Media (CGIM) student art show, as well as Articulate, the student literary and graphic arts magazine.

Wednesday will feature students whose research, service learning, or creativity goes above and beyond the classroom. These students have presented at conferences, published scholarly or creative work, been invited to exhibit or read art, acted in performances both on- and off-campus, or preformed major service projects. We will also celebrate Chlapaty Fellowship Program projects and students who have received honors or recognition from outside agencies. On Wednesday afternoon, there will be an open forum of student work, presentations of research projects by several students, and a keynote presentation by Dr. Eric Dickman (C’02), Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and Chair of the Religion and Philosophy Department at Young Harris College. The title of Dr. Dickman’s talk is “The Final Answer Makes the Questions Seem Absurd: How UD Got Me Thinking through Religion, Reading, and Reflexivity.”

On Thursday morning, at Honors Convocation, we acknowledge a variety of academic accomplishments.
