Women's Tennis Open Court with Road Victory

RIPON, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team swept host Ripon College by a 9-0 mark on Saturday afternoon. The Spartan opned by winning all three doubles matches: Ashley Schlueter/Arantxa Martinez won #1 doubles 8-1, #2 doubles of Mariah Scott/Taylor Fortmann won in extra sets 9-7, and #3 doubles of Stephanie LoCasto/Marissa Rutenbeck captured the doubles sweep with a 8-0 match.
Freshman Martinez never lost a point at #1 singles after winning 6-0, 6-0. Schlueter captured #2 singles 6-1, 6-2 as LoCasto won a close match at #3 singles 7-5, 6-2. Rutenbeck got the win at #4 singles 6-0, 6-0, Scott won at #5 singles 6-0, 6-0, and Fortmann held her opponent scoreless in a 6-0, 6-0 victory. UD is 1-0 overall for head coach Claudio Giraldi.
