Spartans Volleyball Open at Home in Tripleheader

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque played host on Tuesday to a tripleheader with UW-Oshkosh and Edgewood College in Stoltz Sports Center. UD opened the night with a 1-3 loss to UW-Oshkosh, but rallied in the nightcap to lose a heartbreaking five set match 2-3 to the Edgewood College Eagles. Edgewood lost a five set match to undefeated UW-Oshkosh (6-0 overall) by score of 2-3.
The Spartans Claudia Basierak led the offense in both games, she earned 14 kills against UW-Oshkosh and Edgewood. Karah Davis added 19 kills and Amanda Reetz 16 in the two losses. Olivia Larson capped off the extended matches with 39 digs as Kristin Wright finished with 27 digs. Against Edgewood the Spartans collected 77 digs as a team. Hannah Zeiser grabbed 73 set assists as she found the open player.
The Spartans are still seeking their first win of the season after dropping to 0-6 on the year. Tuesday night, they narrowly missed picking off Edgewood, but the Eagles rallied late in the fifth and final set to snatch it away. The Spartans continue their season on the road before retuning home in just a week to host the Cornell College Rams next Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
