Martinez Remains Perfect at #1 Singles

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team dropped an Iowa Conference dual to Wartburg College 1-8 on Wednesday afternoon on Frank Farber Tennis Courts. Freshman Arantxa Martinez improved her #1 singles record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league play with a victory over the Knights Katherine Ross by a score of 6-3, 6-0.
Martinez, a freshman, picked up three of Dubuque's four wins last week as the Spartans dropped Iowa Conference duals to Loras (8-1) and Simpson (6-3). At No. 1 singles, she topped Loras' Elizabeth Dickhut, 6-4, 7-6 (1), and Simpson's Michelle Hartmann, 6-1, 6-2. Martinez also paired with Ashley Schlueter for an 8-0 win over Hartmann and Kelli Greiner at No. 1 doubles against Simpson to be named the Iowa Conference Performer of the Week in women's tennis for the week ending Sunday, September 7, 2014.
