Sep 17, 2014

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – With seconds to spare, the University of Dubuque women’s soccer team fell in double overtime to Augustana (Ill.), 1-0.

It was a hard fought battle for both squads as the Spartans (6-2) suffered their second straight defeat after starting 6-0. Tiffany Duncan was a steel trap in staving off 10 shots, including five saves, but Augustana (4-1) managed to capitalize on their last opportunity.

The Spartans had a few opportunities of their own in crunch time but to no avail. In the first overtime Liz Frazier launched a shot in the waning seconds but it managed to sail wide right. UD's leading goal-scorer Katie Lynn had her shot saved right at the beginning of the second overtime stanza.

The Vikings would outshoot the Spartans by the slim margin of 11-9.

University of Dubuque’s Lynn posted a team-high three shots, including two on goal.

The Spartans will face Carthage College on the road in Milwaukee, Wis. on Sunday, Sept. 21st at 2:00 p.m.
