Women’s Tennis Take St. Ambrose to the Wire

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Arantxa Martinez remained undefeated in No. 1 singles at 7-0, but the University of Dubuque women’s tennis team fell to St. Ambrose by the narrow margin of 5-4.

 

Martinez faced some adversity after dropping the first set for the first time all year. She roared back with a dominant victory in the second and sealed the deal in the tie-break. She earned the win by the scores of 2-6, 6-1, 10-2. She also teamed up with senior Ashley Schleuter as they grabbed an 8-5 triumph in the No. 1 doubles slot. Schleuter followed up with a No. 2 singles victory, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Stephanie LoCasto finished off her last home match of the fall season with a win over Samantha Rochkus after a thrilling first set, 7-6, 6-1.

 

The Spartans travel to Augustana (Ill.) next week to play the Augustana College Vikings on Sept. 23 at 4:00 p.m.​
