Women’s Soccer Team Falls in Extra Time for Second Straight Game

Sep 21, 2014

KENOSHA, Wis. – The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team dropped their second-straight overtime affair, 1-0, after a last-second goal by Carthage.

Carthage (3-5) capitalized in the 98th minute of play with a golden goal by Jessica Socha after a scoreless regulation.

Despite being outshot 14-8 in regulation, the Spartans (6-3) toughed it out to force Carthage into the extra period. Both teams had their chances in the waning moments of regulation as UD fired two shots and Carthage launched one, all within the final minute.

Tiffany Duncan saved five shots on the day while Katie Lynn shot three times, all on goal.

Carthage has had UD’s number in recent years and carry a record of 8-1-2 overall against the Spartans. The Spartans have scored just one goal in the last five years against the Lady Reds, a 1-0 win in 2013.

The Spartans host Nebraska Wesleyan in their final non-conference game on Wednesday, September 24th at 4:30 p.m.
