White and Prull Both Earn IIAC Performer of the Week Honors in Football

Sep 23, 2014

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Cornerback Oscar White’s pair of interceptions and kicker Curtis Prull’s three field goals helped guide the University of Dubuque to their first win of the 2014 season and earned each an Iowa Conference Performer of the Week honor.

White’s IIAC Defensive Performer of the Week was the first of his career and contributed to a Spartan defense that intercepted four passes from Pacific (Ore.) quarterback Warner Shaw on September 20th. His second interception sealed the deal as he picked off Shaw in the end zone with a little over a minute to go and Pacific (Ore.) down 16-10. His first interception was a momentum killer towards the end of the first quarter with Pacific (Ore.) driving on UD’s 33, trailing 7-3.

White helps anchor a UD defense that is second in the IIAC in interceptions with six. He also sits in second place individually within the IIAC in both passes defended (4) and interceptions (2) on the season. The versatile athlete is also second in the IIAC in kick return average at 18 yards per return.

Prull’s only field goals of the year gave him his second career IIAC Special Teams Performer of the Week. He had one make each in the second (22 yards), third (33), and fourth (22) quarters that extended the Spartan leads and kept Pacific (Ore.) at bay. His efforts launched him to second all-time in UD history with nine career field goals. He already sits at third all-time in UD history in extra points made at 49, including a UD record 45 made last season.

Both of their efforts gave life to the winning tradition of raising the flag over Chalmers Field.

The Spartans have a bye week but face Luther on the road Saturday, October 4th. Luther (3-0) boasts a specialized offense that ranks second in the country in rushing yards per game (425.0) along with 13 TDs on the ground.
