2014 IIAC Women's Golf Championships Final Team-by-Team Results

DUBUQUE, Iowa – A chilly start to the final round of the 2014 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women's Golf Championship with weather hovering at the 40 degree mark at tee-off on Saturday, proved to be better conditions than the previous round. The sun made it’s appearance through the clouds as the final groups finished the final nine holes along the picturesque fall foliage of the Dubuque Golf and Country Club. The Wartburg College Knights led by 54 strokes entering the final round, but they extended the lead to 83 strokes after shooting a final day 321 en route to their eighth consecutive IIAC women’s golf championship. The Central College Dutch finished with a round of 350 to finish in second place.

The Knights finished the conference tournament with rounds of 309-302-344-321=1,276, just missing their conference record set last season with a team total 1,274.  Second place Central College 329-319-361-350 =1359   +215; third place Loras College 343-344-386-366=1439   +295;  fourth place Luther College 343-340-384-373=1440   +296; fifth place Coe College. 363-353-404-371=1491   +347; sixth place Simpson College 364-358-413-383=1518   +374; seventh place University of Dubuque 374-354-409-395=1532   +388; and eighth place Buena Vista University 412-382-451-445=1690   +546.

Wartburg’s Rochelle Beardsley claimed her second consecutive Iowa Conference Golfer of the Year honors when she finished the final round with a three over par 74 to lead all golfers on the final day. She ended the four round tournament with a score of 309, a +23 over par. She is the sixth Wartburg IIAC Women's Golfer of the Year and the fifth Knight to earn medalist honors at the IIAC Championships.

Pushing Beardsley was Central’s Kelsey Van Tasell who finished with a 313, just four strokes back. The Knights claimed spots 3-6 with early leader for medalist honors Morgan McMillan placing third and the only person to finish with a round under par, a 71 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in the second round. Teammates Taylor Roberts (328-4th place), Hannah Long (333-5th place), Samantha Heinen (333-6th place) all helped win the championship for head coach Monica Severson, her eighth as head coach. Central’s Chelsey Shuey (346-7th place), Loras’ Mara Simonson (347-8th place), Central’s Christine Ausman (348-9th place), and Coe’s Jessica Franson earned All-Iowa Conference honors for placing in the Top-10.

Central’s Tim Wilkinson Named Coach of the Year
Wilkinson earned his first IIAC Coach of the Year honor on Saturday. He has guided the Dutch to four second-place IIAC Championship finishes in his five years as women’s coach.

The University of Dubuque was the host institution for this year's championship. The Knights will also receive the conference's automatic berth into the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship to be held in May at the Mission Inn Golf Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
