University of Dubuque Instrumental Ensembles to perform in October

Oct 6, 2014

The University of Dubuque Wind Ensemble will open the Department of Fine and Performing Arts season with their fall concert titled Passport on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. in John and Alice Butler Hall in Heritage Center. The concert will feature works by composers from all cultures, including Schönberg, Stalder, and Fukushima. In addition, the University’s Jazz Ensemble will perform its fall concert titled The Birds and the Beats on Monday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m., in the same location.

In his first year as director of bands, Nicholas Bratcher has worked to nearly quadruple the wind ensemble programs in size.  “I’m grateful for all of the continuing support we have received from the UD community.  The students have taken an ownership in the program, and are working hard to produce quality performances for the University.”

At the October 15 concert, the newly formed UD Chamber Winds, an auditioned subset of the larger Wind Ensemble, will perform. The chamber group consists of 10-12 students, rehearsing once a week, and performing challenging instrumental chamber repertoire.

Admission for both concerts is free, but a ticket is required. Tickets are available at Farber Box Office, open Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Heritage Center, University of Dubuque, 2255 Bennett Street, by phone at 563.585.SHOW(7469), or online at www.dbq.edu/heritagecenter.
