Volleyball Spike Storm On Homecoming Week

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team helped kick off an exciting Homecoming Week with a 3-1 victory over the Simpson College Storm on Tuesday evening. UD swept the first two sets by scores of 25-18, 27-25, but the Storm fought back in the third set to capture it 25-21. The final set was all Spartans after they jumped out to an early lead and captured the match with a fourth set score 25-20.

Prior to the match the Spartans introduced the candidates for homecoming court and welcomed hypnotist Jim Wand to the Jon Davison Court who invited all the Spartans to his special performance following the volleyball match. It wouldn't take the Spartans long as they captured the Iowa Conference tilt in under two hours. 

UD finished the night hitting .237 as a team. Leading the offense was Klaudia Basierak who earned 18 kills in 45 attempts and ended the match hitting .311. Karrah Davis added nine kills and the trio of Amanda Reetz, Amy Tranel, and Anna Runge all finished with eight kills. Hannah Zeiser found the open hitter and had 44 assists and eight digs. The Spartans collected 10 service Aces, with Basierak leading with four. Olivia Larson led the defense with 17 digs and helped the Spartans keep the hitting percentage of the Storm to .126.

UD improved to 11-14 overall and 2-2 in the IIAC, Simpson fell to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in the IIAC.
