Volleyball Stopped on Senior Night

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team needed a win to qualify for the Iowa Conference Tournament, unfortunately on Senior Night the Spartans lost a competive battle in Stoltz Sports Center 1-3 to the Buena Vistan University Beavers. Set scores were 25-21, 25-15, 22-25, and 25-21.

After the loss UD is tied for fifth in league standings with a 2-4 record with Simpson College. The top-6 qualify for the IIAC Tournament and it's down to one league game next week. The Spartans will travel across town to face the Loras College Duhawks (1-5) on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The league title will be sorted out on Tuesday night with three IIAC match-ups: Coe (6-0) at Luther (1-5), Wartburg (4-2) at BVU (5-1), and Simpson (2-4) at Central (3-3).

Thursday evening the Spartans were held to a hitting percentage of .194 by the Beavers. A trio of Spartans finished with double digit kills, led by Klaudia Basierak who finished with 12 after 43 attacks. Amanda Reetz and Karrah Davis each finished with 11 kills. Hannah Zieser earned 42 assists and two service aces. Defensively UD had 62 digs and Kristin Wright and Karrah Davis led with 14 each. Anna Runge attacked the net and led both squads with a game high six block assists. The match was tied 17 times and the lead swapped another five times.

Next up, the Spartans travel to Millikin University for the Linda Slagell Dig for the Cure Tournament before facing Loras next Wednesday. UD will play host to the junior varsity IIAC Tournament on Saturday, November 1.
