BOX SCORE

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team led by a point at halftime 46-45, but would be out scored in the final 20 minutes 40-32 as they dropped a road conference contest on Saturday afternoon to the Buena Vista University Beavers 78-85. The Beavers finished with four out of five starers in double digit scoring despite the Spartans holding the lead for 21:07.

Gage Heffernan led the Spartans offense with 19 points and six rebounds. Jacob Mohlis sank three shots from beyond the three point line to finish with 14 points. Andre Norris battled a staunch Beaver defense to finish with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Lucas Ware came off the bench to add 11 points after sinking 5-8 free throw attempts.

The Spartans held the advantage in rebounding 41-40, but couldn't cool the Beavers shooting as they finished the day shooting nearly 50% from the field. UD struggled from the outside making just 9-35 attempts from beyond the three point arc and finished with 36.2% shooting from the field after a cold shooting second half. UD led by 14 points in the first half and it was the host Beavers who led by as much as 11 points in the final minutes to steal away the victory. BV out scored the Spartans inside by pushing the ball in the paint and out scoring UD 32-24.

UD (12-3 overall, 2-2 in IIAC) returns home on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when they host the Loras College Duhawks (7-8 overall, 2-2 in IIAC) at 8:00 p.m. The Duhawks enter after a 78-66 victory over Simpson College (6-9 overall, 1-3 in IIAC) on Saturday.
