Founded in 1983 by Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles.  The group has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion, which creates performances of extraordinary range and musical challenges.  “American Musical Journey” incorporates a full complement of brass and percussion for a musical travelogue through American history. From the time of George Washington to the present – music will be selected from the masters – Copland, Bernstein, Gershwin, Berlin, John Williams, and Sousa.

A public masterclass/clinic with Dallas Brass will be held in John and Alice Butler Hall from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  This session offers tips on becoming better musicians, including discussion on practicing, breathing, showmanship, and other topics that apply to all instrumentalists.  The clinic includes performances of several selections by Dallas Brass as well as an opportunity for members of the group to critique two small instrumental ensembles. Dallas Brass will entertain questions addressing specific musician inquiries.

In addition, Grace & Glory, an acoustic cover band, will perform a one-hour set at 6:00 p.m. on Knapp Stage, located in the Cyber Café of Heritage Center prior to the Dallas Brass concert.  The band consists of UD alumni Tiffiney Kavars, Carter Albrecht, Noah Kachelski, and Kondwani Phiri joined by Dubuque native, Jake Pfhol.  For this performance the group will perform mostly top twenty hits of 2014-2015 with an acoustic feel.  This special pre-show event is free and open to the public with no ticket required.

Tickets for Dallas Brass can be purchased now at the Farber Box Office Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Heritage Center, University of Dubuque, 2255 Bennett Street; by phone at 563.585.SHOW; or online at www.dbq.edu/heritagecenter.
