MONMOUTH, Ill. – The University of Dubuque men’s track team got it done on the track and in the field after four wins earned by Tyler Dobratz, Sterling Jones, Deshond Robinson, and DuVaun Goodlow at the Monmouth Indoor Invitational on Saturday.

The Spartans would have stacked up nicely against the competition had team scores been kept.

Dobratz, a senior, easily outpaced the field after winning the heptathlon with 4298 points, the second-highest total of his career.

Goodlow captured his first win of the year in the high jump with a leap of 1.99m/6’6.25”. Teammate Jeremy Lawson wasn’t far behind after placing second (1.94m/6’4.25”).

Freshman Jones opened up his collegiate career with a 60 meter victory in a field that featured 63 runners. Jones’ time of 7.05 outdid his freshman teammate, Robinson (7.07), by the slimmest of margins. No matter, Robinson picked up a title of his own in his first career 400 meter (51.22) race.

Payton Nevills garnered a fourth place showing in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:37.04. Nevills is currently the UD record holder with a 4:29.65 set in 2014. Nevills’ cross country running mate, freshman Alec Bass, made an impressive debut in the 3000 meters (8:58.48) and placed fifth overall. Bass’ time sits second all-time in UD history.

Nicholas Kazmierczak finished third overall in the pole vault with a 4.30m/14’1.25” attempt.

Dylan Draeger added a fifth place performance in the shot put (12.32m/40’5”) while Mario-John Otchere grabbed fourth place in the weight throw (14.92m/48’11.5”).

The Spartans travel to the Cornell Hilltop Invite next Saturday, January 31 in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
