Men's Lacrosse Open 2015 Season with Road Loss

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team opened their 2015 season against unbeaten Rockhurst University (2-0) and lost 4-17 to the hosts. A quartet of Spartans would finish the afternoon with a goal. Andrew Triantos, Joshua Cramer, Britton Harris, and Andrew Poncer all scored for UD. The Spartans finished with 12 shots in the loss.

Goalie Kyle Mullins took the loss despite earning 15 saves and facing 32 shots on goal. Rockhurst held a large edge in ground balls 66-15, collected 19-24 faceoffs. Ground balls for UD Efrain Rodriguez 3; Andrew Triantos 3; Josh Berey-Wingate 2; Connor Kern 2; Icle Freeland 1; Brandon Jagitsch 1; Collin Perry 1; Andrew Poncer 1; and Dante Victum 1.

The Spartans were unable to take advantage of extra man opportunities and ended the day 0-7 and their defense held Rockhurst to one goal in six extra man chances. The physical game forced UD into commiting 34 turnovers and the Spartans forced Rockhurst into causing 25 turnovers. The Spartans turnovers earned were Andrew Poncer 2; Mike Utley 2; Grant Coffas 1; Brandon Jagitsch 1; Kyle Mullins 1; and Efrain Rodriguez 1.

The Spartans face the Cornell College Rams in Mount Vernon, on Wednesday, Feb. 25. at 6:00 p.m. UD will host Hendrix College on Feb. 27 on Oyen Field and Concordia (Wis.) on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 3:00 p.m.
