DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's tennis battled for over four hours and lost the fight in their Iowa Conference opener to Wartburg College 3-6. UD fell short in two out of three doubles in extra points and lost two singles matches in a third tie break set. The Spartans bounced back in the night cap seinging past Knox College 6-3 to improve to 3-5 overall.

Freshmen Jordan Hamling leads the singles with a 6-2 record at #5/6 singles and has won four in a row. Ranfer Hernandez has a 5-3 record at #4/#5 singles and has won his last 4-5 singles matches. UD's lone senior Nikolay Gospodinov is 4-4 at #1/#3 singles play and captured a nice comeback victory against Wartburg's Luke Benna. Benna grabbed the first set 6-1, Gospodinov rallied back in the second set 6-4 and the third set 6-2 to win at #3 singles.
