MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse overcame an early 6-1 deficit and turned the tables on Augsburg, 15-13, on Monday night to remain undefeated.

Bridget Schirmers added five goals and Kelly Wetherald netted four goals as the Spartans (2-0) avenged an 11-8 setback to Augsburg a year ago. The Auggies (1-3) sprinted out to a 6-1 advantage less than 15 minutes into the game, but it would prove to be short-lived thanks to a 5-1 run by UD to end the half.Schirmers two goals aided the Spartans counter-attack and pulled UD to within 7-6 at the break.

A pair of goals by Augsburg pushed their lead to 9-6 with 26 minutes remaining. The tandem of Schirmers and Wetherald then took matters into their own hands to score seven of UD’s last eight goals en route to the victory.

Give credit to offensive and defensive catalyst Breann Tjaarda who recorded game-highs in four categories: six ground balls, five draw controls, three assists, and six caused turnovers. The freshman out of Aurora, Ill. also chipped in two goals.

Tjaarda's efforts on both ends forced Augsburg into 34 turnovers and helped give UD a 44-23 advantage in shots. The Spartans were spot on in clearing the ball after converting 26 of 33 attempts.

Augsburg’s Delaney Everett anchored the Auggies with five goals on five shots.

The much improved Spartans are off to a hot start after scoring 39 goals in their first two bouts. It took UD seven games to net their 39th goal in 2014.

The Spartans retreat to a warmer climate to take on Rhodes College (5-0) in Memphis, Tenn. on March 7 at 1:00 p.m. UD will also face Millsaps College (3-2) on March 8 at 12:00 p.m.
