Titans Spoil Home Finale for Men's Lacrosse

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team team saw a short-lived, 2-1 lead evaporate against a relentless Illinois Wesleyan team during 23-3 defeat in final home match of the year on Wednesday night.

Joshua Berey-Wingate scored two goals and senior Andrew Poncer added one in the Spartans effort. The duo each scored one as they countered an opening Titan goal to take the lead, 2-1, at the 10:42 mark of the first quarter. From there, it was all Illinois Wesleyan (10-4, 3-0 CCIW) as the Titans turned a 4-2 advantage into a 23-3 triumph thanks to 17 goals spanning the second and third quarters.

The Spartans (2-8, 1-3 CCIW) took on a streaky Titan squad who is currently the CCIW's leading scorer (19 goals in three conference games) and riding an eight-game winning streak. The high-powered Illinois Wesleyan offense outshot the Spartans, 55-14, on the night and held the ground ball advantae, 69-34.

Wingate added a team-high eight ground balls and won a team-high nine of 21 faceoffs. Defensively, Kyle Mullins earned 15 saves and remains the CCIW leader with 67 saves in four league games.

UD hits the road for its final two games starting at Beloit (4-6, 3-3 MLC) this Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m.
