MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team was held to a total of nine hits in a doubleheader loss to the Cornell College Rams om Wednesday. UD lost the first game by a 0-8 score in five innings and dropped the second game by a 3-7 mark.
The Spartans were held to two hits in the first game as the the Rams pitcher would face 18 Spartan batters before the game ended in five innings. Amanda Williams collected a double as she hit a hard shot down the left field line and Tori Woltz singled to centerfield as both hits happened in the fifth inning.
Woltz would lead UD's offense in game two with three out of the Spartans seven hits. Courtney Markin, Ainsley Billesbach, Hannah Koerperich, and Amanda Williams all finished with a hit in the loss. The Spartans would strand 10 batters on base and finished the game with three runs on seven hits.
Spartans pitcher Megan Schlueter took the loss in game one and Williams suffered the loss in game two. UD will travel to play #4 Luther College Norse on Saturday to finish their regular conference season in Decorah.
