DECORAH, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans may have dropped their final two games of the conference regular season on Sunday to #4-ranked Luther College Norse (34-2 overall, 12-0), but the Spartans ended the afternoon with the #6 seed and the final berth into the 2015 IIAC Softball Tournament on May 1-2. UD lost game one to the Norse 1-7 and the norse ended game two in the 6th inning after besting the Spartans 8-0.
The Spartans (14-26 overall, 5-9 in the IIAC) will face #3 seed Simpson College at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1 in Decorah as the #1 seeded Luther College Norse earned the right to host the 2015 IIAC Tournament. Luther and Central still have a two game series yet to make up because of rain.
UD lost at home to the Storm (29-9 overall, 8-6 in IIAC) just a week ago by scores of 3-8, and 5-7. The Spartans rank third in the league in team ERA with a 4.17 while the Storm rank second with a 3.76 ERA. Senior Meggie Schmidt ranks second in the IIAC in total hits with 21 and leads the team with a batting average of .420 in conference games. She went 5-8 in the series earlier against the Storm including a double and a triple.
