Equally exciting is the fact that the two schools will once again donate to a local non-profit organization. The 2014 donation marks the seventh consecutive year the two schools have given back to the community. The Gabriel Project® is the recipient of this year's donation for the Spartans and the Duhawks.

Softball to Host Spartan Winter Softball Camps

The University of Dubuque softball team will be hosting their annual softball camps for grades 9-12 in the newly completed Veterans Memorial Training Center on Nov. 9, Dec. 14, Jan. 11, and Feb. 15. Cost for the various camps will be $30 each.

The University of Dubuque Department of Fine and Performing Arts along with the UD Drama Club will present Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses beginning this Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. and will hold performances through Sunday, November 9, 2014. Set in and around a pool of water, Metamorphoses presents the poetic myths of Midas, Orpheus and Eurydice, Eros and Psyche, and others to juxtapose the ancient and contemporary in breathtaking storytelling and gorgeous imagery, exploring the timeless theme of love in all its forms.

Which Coe team will show up to face the Spartans on Senior Day? The roller coaster Kohawks (4-4, 3-2 IIAC) have alternated wins and losses since week one and are on schedule for a loss this weekend. Playing in a tight game isn’t Coe’s forte after averaging a 19.6 point margin of defeat/victory through eight total games. They will face a Spartan team (3-5, 2-3 IIAC) that’s had a number of close calls this season in the form of UW-Platteville (L 21-26), Pacific (Ore.) (W 16-10), and Buena Vista (L 39-44).

Football Hold On for Senior Day Victory

The University of Dubuque football team finished their home season on Saturday during Senior Day at Chalmers Field. Despite the windy, chilly November afternoon, the Spartans provided a cardiac thriller of a game for the fans in attendance. The Spartans stretched their lead late in the game to 26-14 before the Kohawks rallied in the final fifteen minutes to score twice. Trailing 27-29 the visiting Kohawks attempted a two point conversion with 1:03 only to have the pass in the endzone deflected by UD's Blaine Snitker. An on-side kick by the Kohawks was recovered by UD and the Spartans ran the final minute out to secure the victory 29-27.

Spartans Open Wrestling Season at 2014 Knox College Chuck Porter Open

The University of Dubuque Spartan wrestling team began the 2014-15 season by competing at the 2014 Chuck Porter Open. More than 200 wrestlers from 10 area schools competed in the event at Knox College's T. Fleming Fieldhouse. The Spartans Manuel Mendoza captured the 165 lbs. title with a 6-0 victory in the finals over #3-seed Devon Fenstermaker of Truman State.

Two overtimes wasn’t enough as Melanie Prudhomme delivered the No. 1 seeded University of Dubuque women’s soccer team’s second Iowa Conference tournament title with a win over No. 2 seeded Central, 0-0 in 2OT, and won by a penalty kick shootout 6-5 on the 18th combined penalty kick shootout on Saturday afternoon.

UD Raises the Stakes for Iowa College All-State Honor Band

Last year, for the first time in the school’s history, five University of Dubuque band students were selected for membership in the 2013 Iowa College All-State Honor Band. This year, however, UD has doubled that number, and ten students will travel to Ames, IA to represent the University at this year’s event.

UD vs. IWU NCAA Regional Preview

The Spartans face their toughest test yet against No. 24 Illinois Wesleyan in their second NCAA tournament appearance. The Titans finished second in the potent College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) and gave up one goal in two games against Regional host, Wheaton (Ill.). The offenses will be key against some stout defense after IWU surrendered four goals in CCIW play and UD gave up five goals in IIAC play.

The women's team will complete on the 6,000m course while the men will face a challenging 8,000m course on the campus at Central College.

The NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Committee announced Monday the field of 64 teams for the 2014 Division III Women’s Soccer Championship. The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team, under the direction of head coach Jason Berna, learned the Spartans will travel to Wheaton, Ill. to compete in the regional on Nov. 14-15 at Joe Bean Stadium on the campus of Wheaton College. The Spartans will play the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans on Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m. (CST), the winner will advance to Saturday’s Nov. 15 final at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
