Track and Field's Dobratz Third in Decathlon Through Day One

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Senior Tyler Dobratz competed in the first five events of the men's decathlon as the lone Spartan competitor on day one of the Iowa Conference Track and Field Championships.

Dobratz, the defending 2015 IIAC Indoor Heptathlon champion, competed in the 100m (11.76), 400m (54.01), High Jump (5'7.25"), Long Jump (19'3.5"), and Shot Put (41'4.25") for a total of 3094 points on the day. The senior earned the most points, 699, in the 100m. Dobratz is more than halfway to his season-high 6071 points set earlier this year.

The Edgerton, Wis. native currently trails the leader, Jacoby Firkins of Wartburg, who accumulated 3637 points.

UD's Wendt Scholar Male Athlete of the Year will compete in the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m run tomorrow in the final day of the decathlon competition.
