Soccer Teams Earn NSCAA Academic Team Award for 2013-14

The University of Dubuque women's soccer team and men's soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for having above a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. The Spartans women's soccer have a 3.45 team average for head coach Jason Berna and the men's team posted a 3.32 average for head coach Brad Johnson.

UD’s Rick Valcin, 2014 NCAA Pole Vault National Champion to Compete in Mexico

Fifty Spartans Earn All-Academic IIAC Honors

Congratulations to the University of Dubuque’s 50 Fall All-Academic Iowa Conference award winners. The Spartans finished with the fourth-most honorees in the Iowa Conference, but led the way in women’s soccer (12) and tied with Simpson for the most in volleyball (7).

Jazz Ensemble presents A Swingin’ Christmas at the University of Dubuque

Norris Claims Men’s Basketball’s First IIAC Player of the Week Honor

Junior Andre Norris was an all-around threat for the University of Dubuque men’s basketball team after leading the Spartans to a 2-0 record in the Northwestern ACR Homes Tip-Off Classic this past week. Norris’ efforts earned him the first men’s basketball Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) player of the week award of the season.

Norris Leads Spartans in Colorado College Tourney

The University of Dubuque men's basketball are spending the Thanksgiving Holiday the same way they have spent the past two weekends, on the road playing in a basketball tournament. This weekend the Spartans opened the Colorado College Tournament with a 83-60 victory over Willamette University (Ore.) in the opening game. The victory matches up the Spartans with the hosts, the Colorado College Tigers, at 7:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) in the Championship game. The Tigers were victorious over the University of Northwstern 70-61 on Friday night.

Men's Basketball Win Colorado Tourney

The host Colorado College Tigers battled the University of Dubuque men's basketball team until the final minute of the 2014 Colorado College Tournament, but the Spartans remained a perfect 6-0 with a 77-68 victory. UD led at halftime 33-31, but the Tigers attacked in the second half and closed to within a point with 5:34 left in game. The Spartans fought each advance and increased the lead to seven points after a Gage Heffernan steal and thundering dunk at 3:35. The Tigers once rallied back connecting on a three pointer and a pair of free throws to narrow lead to within a bucket with less than three minutes to play. UD would sink their last 7-8 free throw attempts to extend the lead to nine in the final minute.

Women's Basketball Sinks Unbeaten Gustavus in UW-Stout Tourney

The University of Dubuque women's basketball team showed no slow down after Thanksgiving by edging out the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties in the opening game of the 2014 UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout Tournament by a narrow 78-76 margin. The Gusties made the finish exciting for the fans, trailing by four points, they connected on a three point shot with 10 seconds left of the game. A quick foul sent the Spartans Jenna Kotas to the line for a pair of freethrows. She would miss the first and sink the second attempt to give the Spartans the 78-76 lead. An attempt by the Gusties as time expired missed it's mark and the Spartans captured their third victory of the season and handed Gustavus their first loss of the season.

Women's Basketball Celebrate Turkey Shootout Title

The University of Dubuque women's basketball team continue to evolve and improve into a team which looks much different from what Spartan fans watched last season. What the Spartans lack in height has been more than balanced with quickness from a strong core of seniors and underclassmen. Competing in the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout this weekend, Coach Mark Noll and assistant Kelsey Steinhagen returned to their alma mater and ran away with the championship title. The Spartans were held in check at the start of the championship game, but began to open up their lead by 15 points at halftime. UD sprinted out in the second half and led by as many as 27 points en route to cruising to an 87-62 dominating win against the host UW-Stout Blue Devils Sunday afternoon.

Delta Phi Sigma to Host Ugly Sweater 5K Run/Walk

University of Dubuque student organization Delta Phi Sigma will host an Ugly Sweater 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, December 13. This non-timed event for fun and charity will benefit Dubuque’s local Toys for Tots Foundation. Participants are invited to don the jingle bells, Santa hats, and ugly sweaters, lace up their running shoes, and join the fun on a scenic Grandview Avenue route. Run, walk, or slide across the finish line, then join us in the beautiful University of Dubuque's Heritage Center for refreshments and some festive tunes.

Heffernan’s MVP Efforts Lead to IIAC Athlete of the Week Award

Match was tied, but the Spartans earned one team point for criteria of scoring 51 points in decision and major decision victories while UW-SP scored 50.

Heritage Center Waives Online Fees for the Holidays

University of Dubuque’s Farber Box Office in Heritage Center will waive all online fees on tickets purchased at their website beginning at 10:00 a.m. on December 22 through December 26 as a special Christmas week special. Tickets and gift certificates in any denomination can be purchased at www.dbq.edu/heritagecenter. Additionally, Farber Box Office will be closed beginning December 20 and resume normal hours on January 5.

The University of Dubuque Track and Field Academy will be held on Sunday, January 18 and on Sunday, January 25, 2015. Cisneros and Travis Win Titles at North Central Tourney

The University of Dubuque wrestling team earned two individual titles at the 2014 North Central College Wrestling Tournament. Freshman Joey Cisneros won the 125 lbs. weight class after beating Collin Lesko (Alma) in the finals by a decision of 8-2. Senior Brian Travis claimed the 149 lbs. title after earning a 3-2 decision in the finals.

Hot Shooting Spartans Sizzle at the Beach

The warmth of the beach has been a welcome sight for the University of Dubuque men's basketball team as they opened play at the 2014 Daytona Beach Shootout Men's Basketball Tournament at the Ocean Center. The Spartans enjoyed a hot shooting afternoon when they captured the opener against the Birminham Southern Panthers by a score of 76-62. UD improved to 9-1 overall with the victory.
