Atwater Pulls Off Another Double at Grinnell Indoor Invite

GRINNELL, Iowa – Sophomore Tanasha Atwater continues her hot start with another pair of wins in the shot put (13.48M/44-2.75) and weight throw (15.42m/50-7.25) as the University of Dubuque women’s track team placed sixth at the Grinnell Indoor Invite on Saturday afternoon.

Atwater’s 20 points contributed to a 53-point day for the Spartans in their sixth-place showing with a limited squad. Grandview took home the team title with 77 points in the 15-team field that included athletes from all divisions.

With both wins, Atwater remains undefeated in shot put on the season and has now won 8 of 10 combined events between both shot put and weight throw. The junior set a personal record in the weight throw (15.42m/50-7.25) and now ranks first in the Iowa Conference in shot put and second in weight throw.

Four different Spartans set a personal record in the weight throw including Atwater, Erica Frazier, Rebecca Burmahl, and Keely Glenn.

UD’s other winner was the 4x200m relay team of MichelleAnn Sanchez, Isabella Solis, Katrina Pagel, and Amanda Zbilski.

Zbilski also placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.05m/10-0. There was a three-way tie at the 10-0 mark, but Zbilski fell to second due to amount of misses.

The Spartans travel to the UW-Platteville Invitational next Saturday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m.
