Atwater and Link Tabbed UD April/May Student-Athletes of the Month

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Backed by their All-American performances and Iowa Conference championships, throwers Tanasha Atwater and Alex Link were named UD’s April/May Femle and Male Student-Athletes of the Month, respectively.
Atwater tied the highest-ever finish for a UD woman with a third-place showing in the shot put at the Division III National Outdoor Track Championships in Waverly, Iowa on May 26-28. The sophomore led the nation in the shot put for most of the season, but also qualified for Nationals in the hammer throw where she placed 18th.
It was her first All-American honor and came on the heels of being named Iowa Conference Field MVP where she won the shot put title and placed runner-up in the hammer throw at the IIAC Championships. Along the way she set school records in both the shot put (48-1.75/14.67m) and hammer throw (176-3/53.72m). It was her third straight UD Female Student-Athlete of the Month award.
The Davenport, Iowa native majors in human health science and was recently named Academic All-Iowa Conference and CoSIDA Academic All-District.
Link captured All-American honors of his own with a seventh-place finish in the discus throw at Nationals. His mark of 170-10/52.06m extended his own school record set the previous week by over three feet as he became UD’s first throwing All-American since 1982.
The sophomore also won the Iowa Conference championship in discus and is now a two-time All-IIAC performer.
