TUCSON, Ariz. - The Spartans finished 3-3 over Spring Break that included two extra-inning wins, one against a Division II squad, and an offensive explosion that saw a combined 25 runs scored in their final two games down in Tucson, Ariz.

Freshman Jarad Clevenger's walk-off single helped the Spartans (5-4) beat Concordia (Wis.) to claim UD's first Spring Break victory and highlighted an eventful six-game break. Clevenger, who finished 7 of 15 (.467) in five games, and the Spartans later beat UW-Superior, 9-5, after a four-run 10th inning. The Spartans ended their trip 1-1 despite scoring 12 and 13 runs, respectively, in the final two games.

With a highlight performance on the mound was senior Daniel Karnick, who tossed a complete-game, seven-inning gem in 12-2 victory over Division II's Northern State University (S.D).

The Spartans host their season-opener against North Central (Minn.) this Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Leftfielder Jacob Evans RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth drove in the University of Dubuque baseball team's lone run as the Spartans were beat, 16-1, by Macalester (Minn.) late Monday night.

The Spartans (2-2) mustered six hits against Macalester's pitching trio as the Scots (3-1) scored 16 runs on 18 hits in the teams' first meeting since 1999. Senior starter Tyler Trifiletti (0-1) took the loss and was relieved by a quartet of pitchers making their season debuts in junior Derek Erwin, sophomore Derek Kornfeind, freshman Chase Kueter, and freshman Nick Sewruk.

Catcher Will Doherty led UD with two hits as the Spartans trail Macalester in the all-time series, 5-0.

Catcher Will Doherty scored on a two-out, walkoff-single by Jarad Clevenger in extra innings to defeat Concordia, 5-4, in a nine-inning game one.

Clevenger and Doherty both posted two hits with one RBI apiece. Clevenger's clutch hit gave UD its first win of Spring Break.

Concordia (1-4) utilized a pair of extra base hits in a three-run fifth inning to tie it up at four apiece in a scheduled seven-inning game. Neither could break the tie as UD's junior reliever, Trent Van Egtern (1-0), kept the Falcon bats quiet after tossing four shutout innings and allowing just one hit for his first win of the season.

UD starter Jacob Padilla finished with a season-high seven strikeouts and allowed four runs and five hits in five innings of work.

The Falcons (2-4) pulled away from UD thanks to a two-run fifth inning to go up 4-1. UD mounted a small rally in the top of the sixth, but mustered just one run on a Jacob Evans RBI single while leaving two runners on base.

The Spartans (3-3) were led by Doherty's two hits, one run, and one RBI in defeat. Starter Reed Stumpf (1-1) tossed a solid six innings, allowing four runs, seven hits, while striking out seven.

Concordia outhit the Spartans, 7-6, in only the second meeting between the two teams.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Led by catcher Will Doherty’s two-RBI double, the University of Dubuque baseball team outscored UW-Superior by four runs in the top of the 10th to win, 9-5, in extra innings on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans (4-3) totaled five hits in the 10th inning and scored all four runs with two outs.

Outfielder Jacob Evans and 3B Dalton Garst, who each singled and scored a run in the decisive 10th, each finished with a game-high three hits in six at-bats. Evans brought home a game-high three RBI.

Eyeing a comeback, UW-Superior (0-5) scored one run each in the eighth and ninth innings to force the extra inning and spoil a Spartan lead that grew to 5-1 through the first four innings.

UD starter Doug Van Dyke (1-0) won his first game of the season after tossing 5.0 innings and giving up three earned runs and eight hits. Relievers Derek Erwin and Dalton Garst combined to surrender just two unearned runs in the final five innings. Garst earned his first save of the year.

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Dubuque baseball team exploded for a season-high eight runs in the sixth-inning and got a seven-inning, complete game gem from senior starter Daniel Karnick to defeat Northern State University (S.D.), 12-2, on Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans (5-3) broke open a 2-1 game with eight runs on six hits, including an RBI-single from 3B Dalton Garst, one of his season-high four hits and four RBIs. Centerfielder Eric Hall added a 2-RBI double during the run and led a Spartan attack that featured six hitters with at least one hit, one run, and one RBI.

Backed by 14 Spartan hits, senior Daniel Karnick (1-0) earned his first win of the season after giving up just two earned runs and six hits in seven innings of work. The Winona, Minn. native struck out three and allowed one run each in the fifth and seventh innings. Karnick shut down a 6-5 Northern State team that competes in Division II. 

UD improved to 3-2 over Spring Break.

Seven-run Rally Falls Short as George Fox Walks Off

TUCSON, Ariz. - Seven unanswered runs spanning the seventh and eighth innings tied it up at 13, but the University of Dubuque baseball team fell to George Fox, 14-13, after the Bruin's walk-off sac fly.

The Spartans (5-4) trailed 10-1 through three innings, but plated 12 runs in four of the next five innings to knot it up at 13. Shortstop Ryan Karrick's one-out, 2-RBI double in the top of the fourth got it started for UD as they scored a season-high 13 runs, less than 24 hours after scoring 12 against Northern State.

Karrick led three Spartans with three hits each and also added a team-high three RBIs and one run. First basemen Austin McWhite added two runs and one RBI while 3B Dalton Garst scored one run and brought around two RBIs.

Both teams combined for 30 hits and six errors that led to six unearned runs.

The bottom five hitters in the George Fox (13-8) batting order finished 12-for-23 and scored 11 of the Bruins' 14 runs. Nine-hole hitter Caylen Clardy led all hitters with four hits and three runs.

Spartan relievers Trent Van Egtern and Chase Kueter (0-1) combined to limit George Fox to three hits and one earned run in the final three innings after allowing 13 hits and 13 runs in the first six.
