Bojang, Ellis Pace Spartans to Victory at UD Invite

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's track and field team won their very own UD Invite on Senior Day behind wins from senior Kebba Bojang in the triple jump (13.92m/45-8) and freshman Isaiah Ellis in the 100m (10.92) and 200m (22.58) as the pair paced a total of seven total victories.

The Spartans outlasted the field with 174 points, a mere five points ahead of the field. Loras (169 points) placed runner-up with Cornell (75) a distant third-place.
 
Payton Nevills, Isaac Hernandez, David Ploenzke, Tyler Peugh, Jon Berland, Alex Schlueter, and Mario-John Otchere were honored mid-meet as they represented the Spartan senior class.

Four of the seniors took home victories with Bojang in his first outdoor triple jump of season, Schlueter in the pole vault (4.15m/13-7.25), Nevills in his second career outdoor 1500m win (4:14.59), and Berland in his first career 3000m steeplechase (10:18.04).

Ellis took home the first victories of his outdoor career and saw teammate Najee Toomer claim a runner up finish in the 100m (10.95). Ellis and Toomer teamed up with Marcus Weathers, Jr. and Clayton Gray en route to the 4x100m relay victory (42.28) as well.

The Spartans posted runner-up finishes from Jeremy Lawson in the high jump (1.95m/6-4.75), Kortez Pickett in the long jump (6.53m/21-5.25), Blaze Murfin in the discus (46.89m/153-10), and the 4x400m relay team of Izaiah Lavatai, Blake Worth, Tyler Miller, and Aaron Ofosu (3:23.63).

The Spartans head to Simpson’s Kip Janvrin Open this Thursday-Friday, April 28-29 with qualified relays heading to the Drake Relays on April 29-30.

***Sophomore Alec Bass finished 24th in the 1500m (3:56.43) at the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge on Friday and was the lone Spartan to compete. His time set a new school record and currently sits second in the Iowa Conference.
