BOX SCORE
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Sophomore Kyleigh McLaughlin netted her fifth goal of the season just 1:29 into the game to help the University of Dubuque women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Simpson on Saturday afternoon.

McLaughlin, who scored her third goal in five games since coming back from injury, knocked in a Jessica Fierce assist off the left wing on a fast break attempt. The Spartans (8-2-1, 1-1 Iowa Conference) struck again in the 29th minute thanks to Emily Meeker's second goal of the season off Lauren Cangelosi's assist from 15 yards out on the left side. Simpson (2-8, 0-2 Iowa Conference) countered in the 40th minute with their lone goal of the game off a loose ball in the box.

UD was held scoreless in the second despite outshooting the Storm, 10-2, and 21-8, for the game. Senior Katie Lynn, the Iowa Conference's shot leader, attempted a game-high 12 shots with six of them on goal. The 2014 Honorable Mention All-Iowa Conference selection crossed the double-digit threshold for the first time nad fell two shots short of tying the school record for most shots in a game.

Defensively, UD goalkeeper Paige Dykstra won her second-straight start (5-2-1) and tied a season-high with five saves.

The Spartans improved to 10-9-1 in the overall series and defeated the Storm for the eight straight time by the combined score of 22-3.

UD faces North Central (Ill.) at home in a non-conference bout this Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m.
