Hat Tricks by Julius and Svoboda Lead to Men’s Lacrosse First Win

IRVING, Texas – Freshman Michael Julius and junior Tyson Svoboda each scored three goals on a combined 10 shots as the University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team beat the University of Dallas on the road for their first win of the season on Monday night.

Despite losing the shot count, 31-27, the Spartans (1-3) never trailed as the scoring duo netted two goals each in the first half to go up 5-3 at the break. Julius, Svoboda, and faceoff specialist Joshua Berey-Wingate scored the second half’s only three goals as UD secured its first win of 2016.

UD goalkeeper Kyle Mullins (1-3) totaled eight saves and four ground balls in the victory while Berey-Wingate won 7 of 15 faceoffs and attempted a team-high seven shots.

The University of Dallas (2-7) won the turnover battle, 16-18, and secured more ground balls, 27-22, but had no answer for the Spartans two leading scorers.

Midfielder Alex Ziolkowski led University of Dallas with one goal and one assist on 11 shots.

The Spartans remain down south and head to Louisiana to take on Milsaps College (La.) on Wednesday, March 16 at 4:00 p.m.
