AURORA, Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team couldn't convert on 11 shot attempts and UD goalkeepers, freshman Paige Dykstra and sophomore Katie Silberstein, combined for seven saves in a 0-0, double overtime draw against Adrian College in the final game of Aurora University's Chelsea Lloyd Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Both shots by UD's Kyleigh McLaughlin sailed wide in the 106th and 107th minutes as the Spartans fell short in their final chance at the win. Silberstein's clutch save at the 109th minute staved off the final shot of the game and preserved the tie. It was the Bulldogs (1-0-2) second 0-0, double overtime draw of the season.
The Spartans (1-1-1) finished with five shots on goal while Adrian racked up seven. Senior Haylee Nutter paced the Spartans as both of her shots were on goal. Many of UD's opportunities were mitigated by a season-high seven offsides calls throughout the match. The Spartan offense also mustered a season-low one corner kick.
It was the first time in school history the Spartans have started the season with one win, one loss, and one tie.
The Spartans head to UW-La Crosse for a matchup on Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m.
