BOX SCORE
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Three goals were scored in the final 15 minutes as junior Gonzalo Hernandez delivered the game-winner in the 88th minute to give the University of Dubuque men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Simpson on Saturday night.

Hernandez netted his Iowa Conference-leading eighth goal on a solo breakaway for his fourth game-winning goal of the season. Just a few minutes prior, it was a scoreless battle between the two teams that finished neck-and-neck in the shot count, 14-12, with Simpson (4-6-1, 0-2 Iowa Conference) coming out on top.

UD freshman Skylar Showalter scored his second career goal in his last three games to commence the scoring in the 75th minute on a breakaway attempt. The Spartans (7-2-1, 2-0 Iowa Conference) lead was short-lived as the Storm countered with an 85th minute goal thanks to a deflection off a teammate. Simpson's goal halted UD's bid for a fourth-straight shutout and gave the Spartans their third straight win over the Storm.

Hernandez and UD goalkeeper Riley Jensen, the reigning Iowa Conference offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, paced the Spartans on both sides of the ball. Hernandez ended up with a team-high four shots, three on goal, while Jensen anchored the defense with five saves.

UD improved to 8-10 all-time against the Storm and have outscored Simpson 7-3 in their last three victories.

The Spartans travel to UW-Platteville this Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m.
