MENOMONIE, Wis. - Sophomore Arantxa Martinez won both singles matches and both doubles matches with freshman Marissa Joers as the Spartans fall to UW-Stout, 7-2, and Lawrence University, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon.

Match 1 vs. UW-Stout
Sophomore Arantxa Martinez won No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed up with freshman Marissa Joers to win doubles, 8-4, in 2-7 defeat to UW-Stout on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (0-2), playing their second match in four days, stayed competitive as Joers dropped No. 3 singles by the narrow score of 7-5, 6-3, and the No. 2 doubles team of freshman Naomi Bokela and senior Mariah Scott fell, 8-4.

Match 2 vs. Lawrence
Martinez and Joers teamed up to win their No. 1 doubles match, 8-4, and Martinez kept the momentum with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in No. 1 singles in a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Lawrence.

Senior Mariah Scott earned her first win of the year at No. 5 singles, with an entertaining, three-set victory, 6-7, 6-1, 10-4. Nearly snagging her first victory of the season at No. 6 singles was junior Taylor Fortmann, who was narrowly clipped, 6-7 (4), 4-6.

"We definitely improved," said Graduate Assistant Dishon Deering. "Lawrence and UW-Stout were both good teams. Our No. 1 (Arantxa Martinez) was pushed and the back of our lineup showed a lot of heart."
