CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team will have two representatives in Saturday's semifinals of the Iowa Conference Individual/Double Championships in Arantxa Martinez (Flight A) and Marissa Joers (Flight C).

Martinez, seeded No. 2 in Flight A, seeks her first career Iowa Conference individual championship after falling in the title match a year ago. After receiving a bye in round one, she took down Lauren Welch of Luther in round two, 6-3, 6-2, then proceeded to Coe's Laura Birky by the score of 6-4, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. The sophomore will face the No. 3 seed in Coe's Amy Sebastian on Saturday.

Joers caught a break in round one after advancing due to a walkover in round one of Flight C. The freshman would make the most of it in her first career IIAC tournament and dispatched of Luther's Jamie Stewart, 8-1, in the second round. It was a clean sweep in the quarterfinals with an 8-0 victory over Simpson's Sidney Griffith.

Together, Martinez and Joers were seeded No. 3 in Flight A doubles, but fell in the first round to the unseeded tandem from Luther. The pair were the only competing doubles squad for the Spartans.

Mariah Scott (8-4) and Megan Ranney (8-3) both won their first round bouts in Flight C, but fell in the subsequent round.

Martinez and Joers go for gold tomorrow, Saturday, October 10 at the Veterans Tennis Complex in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
