BOX SCORE
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Sophomore Kyleigh McLaughlin provided a boost off the bench for the University of Dubuque women's soccer team in her return from injury as she scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute of a 2-1 victory over North Park University on Saturday afternoon.

After sitting out the last two games due to injury, McLaughlin started the second half and made it count. Her third goal of the year torched the net from five yards out off a Lauren Cangelosi feed from the right side to give the Spartans (5-1-1) the lead in the 52nd minute. McLaughlin, who is the team's second-leading scorer, and the Spartan offensive saw their share of close calls throughout the afternoon and dominated the shot count, 16-4. Twice in the second half McLaughlin went for more as two of shots rattled off the left post.

Senior forward Katie Lynn was just off target as she saw all five of her shots saved, deflected, or bounce off the posts. Seeing a bit more success was junior Emily Meeker, who notched her first goal of the year off a Shelby Nicholson assist after the ball careened around the goalie box following a corner kick attempt.

The only damage done by the Vikings (2-5) was a converted penalty kick to take the first lead of the game in the 22nd minute.

UD's freshman goalkeeper Megan Moll improved to 3-0 and collected one save in her third career start.

Despite losing a plethora of All-IIAC upperclassmen from a year ago, the Spartans are keeping pace with the 2013 and 2014 squads that finished 6-1 in each of their first seven games. Today's win gave the Spartans a 3-0 record against North Park.

UD will host Dominican University next Wednesday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m.
