Men's Basketball Lose Lead, Suffer First Loss in Conference Play

PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball entered Wednesday's night's game undefeated in Iowa Conference play and appeared to be on their way to another victory after leading by 10 points with seven minutes to go. The host Dutch rallied to capture the lead and the victory over the Spartans 72-67.

The two teams traded shots for the better of the first half before the Dutch grabbed a small 31-28 halftime lead. The teams swapped the lead nine times with UD earning largest lead of the night with 7:24 to go in second half by 10 points. The Dutch largest lead was five points to end the game. A balanced game among a pair of teams looking to finish atop the league standings in 2016. UD held the edge in points off turnovers 21-7, and led in second chance points 11-6. Central's bench would out score the Spartans 29-9. 

Andre Norris led the offense for the Spartans and finished with a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Kain Arthofer finished with 16 points and Jake Weber sank 10-17 attempts from the field for 11 points. 

The Spartans 9-5 overall, 2-1 in IIAC will face the Simpson College Storm on Saturday in Indianola. The Storm beat the Loras College Duhawks 78-60 on Wednesday to improve to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the IIAC.
