DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team was voted the favorite to win this upcoming season's Iowa Conference title, while the women were selected sixth after losing all five starters to graduation.

The Spartan men return two starters from last season's IIAC tournament championship team that includes 2014 IIAC MVP and D3hoops.com Preseason All-American, junior Andre Norris, and sharpshooting guard, senior Jacob Mohlis. UD compiled 46 points with five first-place votes to outdistance Buena Vista and the rest of the field.

"I believe this year the Iowa Conference has a number of teams that can and will compete for the title," Head Coach Robbie Sieverding said. "Staying healthy and having some of our newcomers fill into each role will be key as we move though the season. We have a variety of positons and minutes that are still to be determined and our goal is to be playing our best basketball come conference season."

Coach Mark Noll, the winningest coach in UD history with 118 wins, and the Spartans secured the program's first IIAC regular season title on the backs of five senior starters. UD will lean on 2014 key reserves in speedy point guard Abbey Meyer and do-it-all forward, junior Emily Brinker. After being picked fifth in the last three IIAC preseason coaches polls, the Spartans will look to defy expectations once again after being chosen fifth in 2015.

"We knew we were probably gonna be picked around that spot this year," Head Coach Mark Noll said. "We realize preseason rankings are just that and it's where we finish that counts. By the end of this season we want to be that team that nobody wants to play and make a run in the conference tournament."
